First Position
Independent from the body is the first position that an object may take on. This does not speak about the actual position of the object but rather the role that it plays in the relationship with the body (Astvalk, Broadhead, Derrez 2005:18). Jewellery pieces in the first position are worn as a separate entity to the body that serves purposes none other than decoration and aesthetics. This type of jewellery is worn on the body, but the body has no engagement with the jewellery piece (Astvalk, Broadhead, Derrez 2005:18).Pictured below is a Neckpiece by Kelly Jean Conroy that forms part of her 'wearable' collection that is for sale to the public.
